Somewhere Over Another Rainbow

I looked for both ends of this rainbow, but couldn't find either. This was the look Saturday evening after the warm, windy, stormy weather came to an end and we returned to winter. Lows this morning were in the upper 20s. We may see highs around 60 Monday and Tuesday with more seasonable weather as the new year enters. Accuweather is showing a another cold outbreak by the 7th. Weasley is finally getting some rest now that John has returned home. Christmas really wore him out. Laura has become an expert on Wii and Claire it on injured reserve with a case of Wii-itis in the right arm.

Gort! Klaatu barada nikto!

John and I saw the remake of the Day the Earth Stood still and it wasn't too bad as long as you forgot that it was a remake of a really classic movie. I was really disappointed that the most famous three words of science fiction were not used in the remake. Now I'm looking forward to the new Star Trek movie.

Hawaii Snow

The west is getting all the snow this December....especially the far, far west - Hawaii. We can't get any snow but the top of the mountains on the big island can.

Merry Christmas

This is where we were last Christmas. This year it's a different story. Although it was below freezing for two days earlier in the week, a sharp warm up is on the way. We did have another round of freezing rain yesterday morning causing some 200 wrecks in the metro area. 50s will be the rule on Christmas with maybe 70 and severe weather on Friday. Then the roller coaster returns with another cool down. Christmas will be warm in the entire south this year. All the West is the big snow. Portland, OR has received more than a foot of snow and several inches have fallen in Seattle. We can now only dream of a White Christmas. It will be cold enough this evening to have a small fire and watch the greatest Christmas movie of all-time .... National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

Cold again

This is what it looked like earlier in the week after a brief bout of sleet and freezing rain. A big warm up came Friday with highs way up in the 60s. Cold has again returned with lows this morning below freezing statewide. Northwest Arkansas dropped into the single digits. We will see the mid teens here in west Little Rock by Monday morning and probably won't see the freezing mark all day. As often happens here, moisture will return and as the temps begin to warm we will see some freezing rain Monday night and Tuesday morning. It appears the warming trend will last thru Christmas Day.

Crazy Weather

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Can you believe this! Las Vegas got a record snowfall Wednesday. 3.6 inches of the white stuff pilled up on the strip. Some suburbs got 4 to 7 inches. Seattle has several inches of snow on the ground. What a winter so far.

Are you dreaming of a White Christmas or an Ice Christmas

This December has been a real roller coaster when it comes to weather. Freezing rain, sleet and snow earlier this week will give way to much warmer temperatures on Friday and Saturday. Then......another Huge plunge back into the arctic. Highs on Sunday will remain below freezing over some of the state and lows Monday morning could be in the single digits in north Arkansas. It appears as though this outbreak will plunge all way into Plano. And, you might want to keep an eye on the forecast for Christmas Eve. I know I'm jinxing it, and I know forecasting is very difficult out more than a couple of days, but there is early talk of some winter precip close to the big day. I will always be dreaming of a white Christmas....but NOT an icy Christmas.

Ice is Not nice

Cold Cold Cold.....Low of 24 here this morning and we will be lucky to get above freezing. I'm going to venture into work in a little while. We had mostly light freezing rain mixed with sleet. A very fine snow fell for awhile last night to give just a little frosting on the rooftops. A warm front is expected soon with temps in the 60's by Thursday. Let me know what you got, if anything.

I don't like this forecast

We are in for what could be a couple of nasty days. A winter storm watch has been issued for Monday night and Tuesday. A very strong cold front is moving toward central Arkansas and as usual we are on the borderline. Northwest Arkansas is definitely going to get ice and that will create problems for students wanting to get home early for Christmas break. Some may have to be patient for a couple of days until the roads are clear. South of Little Rock it looks like just rain...and with a little luck the ice will stay north of us. I love snow....but hate ice. Here's a link to the National Weather Service's thoughts on this storm.

Big Easy becomes Big Snowy

No...I'm not in New Orleans...this was from last March. As you well know I thrive on unusual and extreme weather events. Overnight and this morning was a perfect example. There was a pretty big snowstorm south of us. Places that rarely see accumulating snow got their money's worth. Parts of Houston got 2 to 3 inches of the white stuff. Even Galveston saw one inch. The storm moved into southern Louisiana and Mississippi early Thursday dumping up to 8 inches at some spots. Baton Rough totaled 3 inches...and even New Orleans had grassy areas covered with an inch of snow. Check out some of the tv web sites from that area and most will have a gallery of photos. Here's one link to one New Orleans station.

As for our weather...no snow....but it was cold. Clouds kept the overnight low to just 30, but with clear skies tonight we should see the upper 20's. Some rain could move in late in the weekend.

Quick update

Can you believe it? It's snowing tonight in Houston and all thru east Texas. Jackson, MS is forcasting 3 to 5 inches. Even Kelly might get a dusting. Pam and I are just not living right. It's still early in this winter,

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Winter

Don't you just love this weather. At least some of you do. Great news last night....Pam received a little winter precip. At least something fell. Of course Kelly had snow pellets last week after I had a few flakes. Cold weather has really moved in with highs today just in the mid 30's. If it clears tonight we could see 27 or 28 by morning.

Accuweather has a new radar at their site. It's color coded by precipitation like you see on Intellicast. Go to this link and see if it works for you.

Moon and Planets

Take a look at the Moon with Venus and Jupiter. I took this photo about 6pm. It might be like this again tomorrow night. The picture is a little blurry. If I ever read the entire instruction booklet I might be able to take a better picture.
